I have been singing since the age of three and by 1st grade was singing in school choirs and soon after in church and community choirs. I began playing violin in the fifth grade and shortly after began studying the flute at the age of twelve. As one reviewer said"Julie amazes audiences and church congregations with her talent. Her songs and style are inspired by the great classics, soft jazz, Celtic/Irish and her own unique styling and intrepretation." I have studied with several members of the DSO, performed in a group who appeared with recording artist Alexander Zonjic, and have taken part in many master classes with James Galway, Jeffrey Zook, Ervin Monroe, and others. I serve as a substitute flutist for many of the community orchestras in the Tri-county area and work as a freelance flutist & performer.
I have been teaching privately for 20 years and playing professionally for over 15 years. I love to visit the schools to do sectionals and "junior master classes". It is so important to work hand in hand with our local Directors of Band and Orchestras in our schools - they do such a tremendous job with our children and I am so honored and humbled when I am invited in to the bandroom to help out with the young flutists.
I am part of a flute and harp duo called Bella Musica, and we perform for many engagements in and around Michigan.
So far I have put out a Demo CD with pianist/harpist Michelle Shrewsbury, and am now hard at work on my first full-length CD.
